At Kindred Home Care, we have always believed that the best care is built on a foundation of
strong relationships, deep community roots, and local trust. Today, we are thrilled to announce
a major milestone in our company’s history: TLC Nursing Home Care Services has officially
joined the Kindred team.

By uniting our two organizations, we are bringing together decades of experience to elevate the
standard of home care across Atlantic Canada. But for our team, this expansion into
Newfoundland and Labrador represents something much more personal than a business
milestone.

A True Homecoming

Kindred Home Care was founded in New Brunswick in 1986, but our roots actually trace back to
the Rock. Our founder, Paul English, is a proud Newfoundlander who grew up in St. John’s.
When he left the island to build his business, he took his core values with him: a commitment to
community, treating people with integrity, and caring for people safely where they are most
comfortable – at home.

For our CEO, Billy English, partnering with TLC brings that vision full circle.

“This isn’t a typical acquisition for us—it feels more like coming home,” says Billy.
“Expanding to Newfoundland with a partner like TLC, who shares our exact values,
is something our team has dreamed about for a long time.”

Two Legacies, One Shared Mission

TLC Nursing Home Care Services has been an absolute pillar in Newfoundland’s home care
landscape for over 50 years. Founded in 1973 by Sylvia Carew and led by her son, Chris
Carew, TLC has provided exceptional care to clients across St. John’s, Stephenville, Corner
Brook, Rocky Harbour, Port aux Basques, Grand Falls, and Clarenville.

When it came time to look toward the future of TLC, Chris wanted to ensure his mother’s legacy
was left in the right hands.

“I’ve been approached by many interested buyers over the years, but I declined
because it wasn’t the right fit,” explains Chris Carew. “When I evaluated Kindred, I
ultimately decided they were the right team to carry forward our legacy. The word
‘kindred’ means close to someone because of similar qualities—and that’s exactly
what I found. They’re dedicated to the same values my mother built this company
on.”

Looking to the Future, Together

By welcoming TLC’s incredible workforce of 750 employees to the Kindred network, our
combined organization will now employ approximately 2,000 dedicated professionals and
deliver over 2.5 million hours of care annually across two provinces.

We are honored to provide the resources and operational support of a large organization, while
fiercely protecting the local heart that makes TLC’s care so special.

To the TLC team, clients, and community: Welcome to Kindred. We are so proud to be
building the future of care together.
